About the artist
Alexandra, known artistically as Vairea — her Tahitian name meaning “quiet / shimmering water” — is a painter whose work reflects the duality of the two places that shaped her.
Born in Tahiti, she moved to Montréal at the age of eighteen. Ten years later, both places still feel like home — one shaped by tropical light, the other by the stillness of winter. Her art lives somewhere between the two.
Painting allows her to disconnect from reality and step into the worlds she creates in her mind. Each piece is inspired by memories, photographs, and the shifting colors of Polynesia — fragments of places and moments that continue to stay with her.
Working mainly with oil paint, she does not seek perfect realism; she paints to feel grounded. Her hope is that when someone stands before one of her paintings, they experience a sense of serenity and lightness — as if they, too, have escaped for a moment.
